Last night I was watching the firework displays in the different cities around the world and couldn’t help but think of those resolutions we’re so prone to make at this time. I have to confess, that for me, they’re a bit like fireworks – brief and beautiful illuminations, then, gone as quickly as they appeared. I don’t make them anymore. Call me cynical, but that’s just the way I feel nowadays. Having said that, I do enter this new year with positivity and hope and wish the same for you.
My name is Don Scrooby and I live in The United Kingdom. I feel that more than anything else, nature, and the objective things around us, convey a speech and a message we always need to listen to and follow. This kind of listening is life-giving and there is a certain form spirituality about it.
In this blog, through the the photographic image and accompanying words, I’ve tried to share this experience as simply as I can. There is an underlying beauty in nature we all need to see and experience, especially in this day and age as we struggle to save our planet.
Most of my shots are taken with a Fujifilm XT100 camera and my Iphone. I’m no professional Photographer, but I do enjoy outdoor walks with my simple gear trying to capture what I see and experience.

I love this analogy between fireworks and resolutions. I don’t do resolutions anymore, either, at least not New Year’s resolutions. So glad you are facing the new year with positivity and hope – your posts certainly express that and I thank you for these posts. Thank you also for your kind wish. I will try to do the same. 🙂
That’s a very good analogy, Don. I don’t make resolutions. I try to approach life on a continuing basis, including goals. I hope it’s a good year for all of us.
Yes, Dan. I feel that way too. I think the secret is in that steady continuing basis you speak of. It’s not jerky and inconsistent, just a steady consistent and resolute walk through life. Thanks for sharing.
For the first time in about 25 years I actually DID make a New Year resolution. I normally don’t believe in them.
I vowed to find some way to get outdoors more, painful as it may be to walk. The trouble with this resolution is that my view from my desk each morning (and I get up late as I go to bed late) is………….the view is so beautiful some mornings that it takes my breathe away and I can’t bear to miss each bird visiting my garden. Sounds crazy I know. In the hot afternoons as the sun moves over my apartment building, it’s too hot, but in the mornings…………….
Thank you for sharing this Vicki. I hope your need to find ways to get outdoors more will materialize for you. I suppose it’s both, the view you have and the need to get out more. I’m sure you will balance this in ways that will suit you.
I dont do that either. Then again I have not stayed up until midnight in a long time. I resolve to just do the best I can on a daily basis. Very pretty firework photo.
Thank you very much for this insightful and interesting post! And a very happy new year to you! I have recently published an article on my blog about new year’s resolutions and my different perspective on the importance of resolutions daily. If you have time, it would be great if you could check out my post as I would be interested to hear your thoughts! Thanks 🙂
Great post! I found out a while ago that the best way not to fail on my New Year Resolutions is not to make any! I have written an article recently about this titled ‘Why New Year Resolutions are Doomed to Fail’ – ,’https://authorjoannereed.net/new-years-resolutions/ – Feel free to check it out!
Aye! Let’s be positive! Day by day. 🙂
