Year after year, I’ve watched this tree transform itself into the beautiful colours of Autumn. The transformation happens quietly, naturally, persistently and without any kind of fuss or grunt and groan striving for perfection. It just slowly happens.
I’ve often wondered why human beings can’t transform themselves in this way as well. Change always seems to be so immensely difficult in human life. Some say we can’t change in this way, while others say we can. Which is it? Well, as Forrest Gump would say, “Maybe it’s a bit of both.”
Maybe it is. I think we undergo many changes; we may resist them, but they happen anyway – puberty, old age, for example. Maybe the tree is saying, “not this again …” 😉
Beautiful photo of a beautiful tree. 🙂

Yes, I think you’re right. There are things like you describe that happen quietly and naturally. Like what you say the tree might be saying. 🙂 Thank you for your comment.

I wonder how or if the tree experiences the change?

Somehow, I think it does. I often think that nature is more conscious than we think. thank you for your comment.

Perhaps most of us feel we’ve no need to change, and it’s only when life demonstrates otherwise that we’re forced to? Or bury our heads in the sand . . . Have a good weekend, Don.

Thanks Hariod. I think you’re right. How often does life put us in circumstances where we are forced to change. Just a pity it has to come to that at times. 🙂

Isn’t it a wonderful experience to watch the same tree through the seasons? I have two maples outside my writing window that I have watched for about 15 years. I love the cycles they go through. It does remind me of my cycles as well. I read a lovely poem called “Trees” this morning that you might enjoy, http://www.ayearofbeinghere.com/2014/10/howard-nemerov-trees.html.

Thank you LuAnne. I read the poem. Absolutely beautiful. It articulates all that I feel about trees, especially the tall ones. Also appreciate you sharing your own feelings about trees.
