Snapshots Of My World

A Journal of Reflections, Images and Insights

I’ve been deeply struck by what I can only call a sheer coarseness permeating our relationships, especially here in the UK at this time. I see it happening specifically in our language in the political sphere of life. Our words have become rough, raw and thoughtless, No doubt the nature of our language unveils the reach and depth of our souls. I’ve had to sit myself down and take a long inward look. Sadly, I’ve discovered a real lack of reverence and empathy.

Yes Don, in recent years we seem all to have become inured to The Loudest SHOUT, having lost nuance, subtlety, lost sight of the relativity of mere opinions. I say ‘all’, though there are of course exceptions, and the other day I found myself smiling throughout a YouTube video of Stephen Fry in discussion with Richard Dawkins. Thankfully, it was mostly Fry, and the lightness of his touch, his humour, wrapped around and woven into each of his many brilliant insights, was so delightful. We need more like him on the main stages of the media, I feel.

Thank you Hariod. Sorry I’m so late with my response but I’ve been in London. I too love Stephen Fry. Such a Renaissance man. I found his two recent books on Greek mythology wonderful. He brings much sanity to our context and speaks out of the authority of his own pain. We need many more like him – men and women with soul.
