  • M Moser Associates designed the offices of national education company Teach for America, located in Washington D.C.

Teach For America’s (“TFA”) regional hub was outgrowing its space in multiple buildings in downtown Washington before deciding to consolidate its staff in a new building at Progression Place in the Shaw neighborhood. Several other affiliated groups were also co-located into a new space that was designed to be collaborative and support new ways of working.

The space provides a variety of settings for small group meetings as well as larger rooms that are equipped with videoconferencing capabilities to support the TFA regional network. Individual spaces incorporate height adjustability to accommodate staff preferences at each desk. The hub location was transformed to echo its mission in an old-fashioned school house setting. The design incorporates TFA branding colors and materials, such as weathered wood to reflect the heritage of the school house.

We worked collaboratively using 3D modeling to visualize the entire project during schematic design, including space planning, furniture and materials selection and lighting design. TFA chose an integrated project delivery based on a proven track record working with M Moser and desire for a single point of responsibility.

The careful management of a limited budget with the design and construction of the project was critical to the mission. We demonstrated creativity by specifying cost effective building materials and reusing furniture to enhance the overall design solution.
