BD Offices – Tempe
SmithGroup utilized expansive windows and a variation of meeting spaces for the multi-functional BD offices in Tempe, Arizona.
As the world’s second largest medical technology company, BD advances the world of health by improving medical discovery, diagnostics and the delivery of care. BD works to sustain life with their devices including stints, catheters and artificial veins. The design of BD’s workplace celebrates the contours of the human body by creating an ease of flow using soft edges and angles to propel users through the space.
Consolidating user groups who were formerly spread across multiple buildings, the new vertical campus focuses on gathering to connect people and transform the way they work, interact, collaborate and innovate. Core components of this strategy include neighborhoods, neighborhood hubs, working intersections that use the spaces in between the neighborhoods, a work zone and social hubs. To further connect people, an internal communicating stair was located between two floors. Each floor was laid out with some consistency to simplify wayfinding and to ensure access to the varieties of social and amenity spaces. A full-service cafeteria, Starbucks café, gym, yoga room and expansive landscaped outdoor space were provided to support and celebrate employees and their life-changing work. Located in a new office building also designed by SmithGroup, the integrated project team was able to provide a highly customized tenant experience that seamlessly flows to connect to the outdoors and the lakefront location .
