  • M Moser Associates thoughtfully involved colors in the sophisticated design for Unity‘s offices in Shanghai, China.

Engaged as a trusted advisor following the completion of Unity’s London office, our Shanghai and London teams worked together to blend local character into a global-standard workplace.

    Elevating brand experience
The space has been envisioned as a powerful physical platform for creators, partners and customers to meet and invent. By using creative and authentic materials, the design concepts pay tribute to Unity’s values of empowering all creators and turning their ideas into reality.

Dynamic lights in a range of typologies (floor, pendant, table) and forms (animal, Chinese lantern) have been used to bring to life a bright, energetic workplace culture.

Punches of colour, including green, blue and red throughout the functional areas, speak to Unity’s “Best Ideas Win, In It Together, Go Bold, Users First” values and provide a dynamic ambience for work and interaction. Brand statement graphics are emphasised using backlight illumination.

    Local inspiration
Honouring originality, the front of house uses a creative mix of flooring and furniture to celebrate a fun workplace spirit. Chinese folklore tales of the rabbit and the moon, and the birds and the forest, have been translated into the design language.

Furniture and delicate details that take cues from Chinese culture have been curated to reflect a unique sense of place. A pig art installation/side table has been selected to mark the special identity of this workplace, which opened in the year of the pig.

The application of the Chinese zodiac, cultural symbols, colours and characters through signage and environmental art reflects Unity’s emphasis on nurturing local communities.

    Pragmatic and user-centric
A staircase has been introduced to enhance vertical connection between the two floors. Glass panels feature patterns of lucky animals in Chinese culture, such as the dragon and the phoenix, providing visual continuity as users transition vertically.

The layout prioritises biophilia and wellness, providing the cafeteria and other shared spaces with stunning views of the Bund and of the Lujiazui skyline across the river. A live streaming room has been designed to support Unity’s diverse community live-streaming activities, bringing state-of-the-art technology to users to democratise development.
The back of house features several meeting hubs at each corner, equipped with open discussion spaces, nooks, and meeting rooms to enrich choices and support creative process. Height-adjustable workstations have been introduced for staff wellbeing.
Meeting room tables have been customised for video conferencing, a critical consideration for Unity’s global teams during and beyond COVID-19.

This workplace marks another successful partnership between Unity and M Moser. Offering a highly branded experience, the space drives innovation and community building with local partners and customers.
