  • Steven Leach Group designed a comfortable and sophisticated space for the BMW offices in Tokyo, Japan.

    After successful collaborations in the region SL+A Tokyo was tasked to create a new headquarter office for BMW Japan. Organized on one floor plate the full potential of organizing a connected workspace was realized. Connected Works is the workplace concept introduced by BMW to achieve a contemporary environment of highest efficiency.

    Connected Works comprises the totality of modern and efficient forms of work at the BMW Group which offers the opportunity to organize everyday work even better, even more efficiently utilizing a hybrid environment. Connected Works is driving transformation in the company and its culture and making it more sustainable. Everybody is encouraged to contribute to this transformation becoming more connected, more agile and more efficient. Connected Workplace offers a range of modules that create vast spatial diversity for teamwork. concentrated and creative work, interaction and recreation. A variety of room modules are available characterized by activity based working (ABW). Employees using different work settings have the benefit of work settings assisting them best while also enjoying greater autonomy.

    The design language is based on a sensitive integration of traditional Japanese elements like louvers and wood structures following a contemporary design language while showing dedication and respect to the Japanese market. Branding is incorporated throughout the space referring to the architectural jewels of their Munich headquarter as well as to their long history of producing not only utilitarian vehicles but cars of excitement and innovation pushing the entire industry forward.
